Frequently asked questions

How much sealer does a CAT 4 kit make?
Up to 10 gallons ready to use.
CAT 4 or CAT 5?
Choose CAT 5 for the deepest wet look and strongest joints; CAT 4 for strong protection with gloss at a lower kit cost.
Can it be applied to damp pavers?
When sealing without joint stabilization, it can go on dry or damp surfaces with no pooling. For joint stabilization, apply to a dry surface.
How many coats?
Two coats for optimal performance; the first should be a flood coat.
Is CAT 4 matte?
No, it dries to a gloss. For matte, choose Cyclone.

Trident Hurricane CAT 4 is a concentrated, water-based 2-part aliphatic urethane sealer for pavers and concrete that adds deep colour enhancement with a gloss finish and Armor Bond joint sand stabilization. One kit (4 gal Part A + 1 gal Part B) makes up to 10 gallons of ready-to-use sealer. It is a durable, slightly less glossy step below CAT 5, recommended for professional use.

Key benefits of CAT 4

  • Deep colour enhancement with gloss (T3 True Tone Technology)
  • Armor Bond joint stabilization reduces sand washout, weeds and insects
  • Guards against salt, mild acid, alkali and corrosives
  • Antifungal film protection
  • Breathable: apply to new, clean, dry surfaces without waiting
  • Will not yellow; low VOC

Who it is for

  • Contractors sealing interlock and stamped concrete
  • High-traffic areas needing durability and chemical resistance

Not recommended for

  • Marble, granite, ceramic tile and polished, honed or high-gloss surfaces (not enough texture to absorb the sealer)

How to use CAT 4

  1. Clean the surface (OxyShock MAX for organics, EffBOMB for efflorescence) and let it dry; for joint stabilization the surface must be dry.
  2. Re-sand joints with SEK Jointing Sand if needed.
  3. Mix Part A and Part B, then dilute with water as directed on the Trident label for your desired sheen and joint strength.
  4. Test in a small area to verify appearance.
  5. Apply the first coat as a flood coat at 80-120 sq ft per gallon (mixed) to saturate the joints, with no pooling.
  6. Apply the second coat once the first has visually cleared and is dry to the touch, usually about one hour.

Using CAT 4 in the Canadian climate

Resistance to salt and corrosives makes CAT 4 suitable for Canadian driveways that see road salt. It will not trap naturally occurring efflorescence or moisture.

SEALING WITH JOINT STABILIZATION

  • 80-120 square feet
  • 7.4-11.1 square meters

SEALING ONLY WITHOUT JOINT STABILIZATION

  • 200-300 square feet

Coverage per gallon once mixed and diluted. Single application. Actual coverage may vary depending on type, age, condition, joint size and porosity of the surface, application method and other local conditions such as temperature. For more uniform coverage, a second coat should be applied as soon as practical after the first application has visually cleared and is dry to the touch, which is usually one hour.
