Coverage planning
One Trident Hurricane CAT 5 kit (7 gal) makes 15 gallons ready to use at the D1 ratio or 20 gallons at D2: about 1,200-1,800 sq ft (D1) or 1,600-2,400 sq ft (D2) per coat with joint stabilization. D1 gives more gloss and stronger joint sand stabilization; D2 is the leaner, economy ratio. Joint sand: see Paver Jointing Sand.
Sealing pavers in Canada: timing and temperature
Seal on a clean, dry surface after removing efflorescence. Trident urethanes and Break Wall are breathable and can go on new pavers without waiting. Check the product label or ask us for the temperature window before sealing in spring or fall.
FAQ
What is the best paver sealer for freeze-thaw?
For invisible protection, a breathable penetrating silane/siloxane such as Break Wall (cured freeze resistant to -51°C). For a finished look with stabilized joints, Cyclone (matte) or CAT 5 (wet look), which also guard against salt.
Is Trident CAT 4 still available?
No, Trident CAT 4 has been discontinued. Trident Hurricane CAT 5 is the 2-part urethane we carry: it gives the deepest wet look and strongest joints and makes 15 gallons per 7 gal kit at the D1 ratio (more gloss, stronger joints) or 20 gallons at D2 (leaner, economy).
When can you seal new pavers?
Trident states its breathable sealers can be applied to most new, clean and dry surfaces without waiting.
Does sealer make pavers slippery?
Penetrating sealers like Break Wall leave no film. Gloss film sealers change the surface feel, and Trident notes excess coats of CAT 5 can be slippery; test first and consider an anti-slip additive on pool decks.
How do I remove old, white sealer?
Strip it with Trident Tidal Wave X before resealing.
