News Release: Canada / US Tariff Conditions
For Immediate Release:
StoneSealer Canada and StoneSealer USA joint statement regarding ongoing tariff situation.
February 2nd 2025 - Written by Madisson Craig - President of SSG
To all of our loyal customers, including everyone from a single time DIY buyer to our highest volume dealer, thank you all for what you have helped us build in such a short period of time.
We are about to see a once in a lifetime trade battle, and I'd like to tell all our clients that rely on our lower pricing model to keep their own business afloat that nothing will be changing any time soon even with these tariffs in play.
Firstly, for all our Canadian contractors and vendors which rely on our cleaning products for their business, there will be no tariffs applied to these products as they are made in Canada with Canadian ingredients, there will be no anticipated price increase on these cleaning products at this time. For Canadian contractors who rely on the Trident paver system and our Stain-Proof sealers, both of these are sourced in the USA, as of current no expected Trudeau tariffs will apply to any products we import for the Canadian market; we will continue to work closely with our duely elected representatives to continue to see this market cut out as most businesses which rely on these products are SMB's that could not possibly afford a 25% price hike in the coming weeks and months. This is all to say, for Canadians that work with us, there will be no change to our business nor to what you pay for our products other than the typical year over year price increases to be expected from most products.
For our American dealer network and contractors, this is going to be the bad news chunk of this release. We will have no input or ability to discount items which are going to be tariffed, which is to say all of our Canadian produced items like: EffBOMB, OxyShock MAX, GreaseGone, ProPeel, and AquaBlocka will all be effected for exportation to the United States. We are currently evaluating our options in regards to moving some production of these products to the USA or other ways for our American partners to avoid this cost. However, for the time being, these products you have come to love will still have a strategic advantage on cost compared to American made products. The incoming tariff system on Canadian made goods is 25%, meanwhile the Canadian dollar is still 40% less so even on products which are competitively priced 1CAD to 1USD of similar products, you would still be saving 15% post tariff. We are not down and out, but this will be a challenging time for those who have come to rely on the steep discount by purchasing in USD.
Lastly, if you are an American business deeply concerned about this tariff policy effecting your small and medium sized businesses, you can do 2 things.
1.) Purchase in bulk quantities what you will need for the year from our Canadian made list by 11:59 PM PST February 3rd 2025, all orders placed and paid by this time will be made before tariff policy is in effect, and as such will be exempt.
2.) Contact your local senators and other elected representatives to inform them the impact this is having on your small and medium sized business which disproportionately cannot afford these changes compared to the large corporations.
I will return with regular updates on the situation, and how it effects our various business lines, we thank you all for continuing to support Canadian small businesses, as currently we need your support more than ever.
